Playing Up Policy

At Timberwolves, player development comes first. Playing up is an opportunity for athletes to challenge themselves, but must align with Cairns Basketball Inc. guidelines and approval processes.

✔ Strong skill level
✔ Coach recommendation
✔ Ready for higher competition
✔ Approved by Junior Committee

Eligibility & Application

  • All players wishing to play up must apply in writing through the Club President to the Junior Committee.
  • Players must demonstrate that the higher division is appropriate for their ability and development.
  • This may include supporting evidence such as a recommendation from a representative coach.

Approval Process

  • All play-up requests must be approved by the Junior Committee of CBI in coordination with the Competitions Manager.
  • No appeals can be made on decisions regarding play-up approvals.
  • Player eligibility and grading may be reviewed at any time if required.

Team Placement & Conditions

  • New player registrations are prioritised and may take positions currently filled by play-up players.
  • If required to vacate a position, play-up players will receive a pro-rata refund.
  • All play-up players are required to pay applicable CBI play-up fees from the start of the season.

Team & Competition Rules

  • Teams must consist of a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 10 players.
  • New players may join a club if positions are available.
  • Players registering mid-season will be subject to CBI fee structures (full or pro-rata depending on timing).
  • Players cannot play across multiple teams within the same division.
